Rose Bouquet Made of Cupcakes

Gorgeous Gift or Party Centerpiece Idea:
Rose Bouquet Made of Cupcakes
I think I am in LOVE with the Frugal Girls this week! Some of the sweetest, cutest Valentines gifts and crafts have been posted there all week long! Today, however, Heidi outdid herself. She found the most perfect, most perfectly lovely gift or centerpiece for any occasion: Thank-You, Birthday, Baby Shower, Bridal Shower, Holiday, etc etc.

How very perfect are these cupcake roses? Heidi outlines how to make them on her blog. Also, she provides a video tutorial link!

Basically, the idea is that you bake (and cool) mini cupcakes. Then, "dirty ice" them with a little icing. While that icing is still wet, hand pipe icing roses directly onto the cupcakes (This is where the step-by-step guide comes in handy). Alternatively, you can ice your roses onto a bakery flower "nail" first.  Get a pretty container, put a little Styrofoam in it. When the roses are finished, put a wooden skewer into the bottom of each cupcake, and then press the cupcake into the Styrofoam. Voila! Cupcake bouquet! So lovely.
Heidi recommends saving time and buying some buttercream frosting straight from a bakery or store bakery instead of making it yourself. Either way is fine. In the past, I have totally cheated on fancy birthday cakes by going to a local baker (at a grocery store or other) and convincing them to sell me the icing roses individually for 75c-$1 each.  When I pick them up, they are usually tacked down onto a wax sheet in a pastry box. I pop them into the freezer for a while so they firm up and I can more easily take them off the wax sheet without deforming the flowers. If you go that route, buying your roses pre-made, I suggest still baking your own cupcakes and giving them a little icing on top right before you put the roses on. Icing and icing roses stick much better to wet icing on a cupcake.

Thanks again, Heidi at Frugal Girls!
